Julian High School students in grades 10–12 have an opportunity to apply for a paid, hands-on internship exploring careers in the energy industry.
The Spark Your Education program, offered through the San Diego Regional Energy Network (SDREN), is connecting high school students with a seven-week internship through The Energy Coalition (TEC). The program is designed to introduce students to careers in construction, electrical work, water and wastewater, and the growing clean energy workforce.
During the internship, students will:
Explore careers in energy, construction, electrical, and water/wastewater fields
Learn from industry professionals
Build job-ready skills such as networking, interviewing, and using LinkedIn
Participate in hands-on workshops and field trips
Work toward industry-recognized certifications
The paid internship runs October 20 through December 10, 2026. Students will meet in person at The Energy Coalition's San Diego office on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:00–7:30 PM. The internship includes approximately 21 total hours over seven weeks, with pay of approximately $17 per hour.
Students must be in grades 10–12 and must be at least 16 years old by October 20 to apply.
We know traveling from Julian to San Diego can be a challenge for our students. The program has indicated that transportation assistance may be available. Students and families with transportation questions should discuss their individual needs with the program when applying.
This is a competitive opportunity and students must apply to participate. Students interested in careers in the skilled trades, energy, construction, utilities, or other hands-on career fields are encouraged to learn more and apply.
